Mouro Capital Joins US$48 million Series B Funding Round of Securitize
June 21st - 2021
Miami/Madrid, 21 June 2021 – PRESS RELEASE
Mouro Capital, a venture capital fund focused on fintechs and adjacent businesses participated by Banco Santander, announced today a new investment in Securitize, a California-based startup which offers a trusted global solution for issuing and managing compliant digital securities on the blockchain. Mouro Capital had already invested in Securitize in 2019.
Securitize has announced today that its Series B fundraising round was oversubscribed, with $48 million raised from new and existing investors. The raise was co-led by existing investors Blockchain Capital and investment funds managed by Morgan Stanley Tactical Value. They were joined by new investors including Ava Labs, IDC Ventures, Migration Capital, NTT Data and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank. The round also included other existing investors wishing to increase their investments in Securitize, with Blockchain Ventures, Borderless Capital, Ripio, Ripple and SPiCE VC ultimately joining. With this raise, Securitize is the first blockchain company to receive major institutional funding from North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Securitize brings together businesses seeking to raise capital with individuals and institutions seeking to invest in the private capital markets. To bring investors and opportunities together, Securitize has pioneered a fully-digital, regulatory compliant, end-to-end platform for issuing digital asset securities, managing them and facilitating its trading to provide liquidity.
Carlos Domingo, Securitize CEO and co-founder, said: “Securitize developed incredible partners during our Series A round last year, both in venture capital and at major European and Japanese financial institutions. That they have been joined in our Series B by a major U.S. investment bank and the largest trust bank in Japan as well as additional top VCs demonstrates that confidence in the adoption of digital asset securities is increasingly mainstream.”
Manuel Silva, General Partner at Mouro Capital, said: “As digital assets are one of the most promising trends reshaping capital markets, we could not think of a better partner than Securitize to ride this transformational wave for the industry. I have been following Carlos across a number of his professional projects and, in Securitize, since we first invested in 2019, we have been impressed by his ability to read where the market is going and to develop products that can tap into the new revenue pools.”
Investors will receive their shares in the form of digital asset securities via the Securitize platform, joining the more than 300,000 investors and 150 companies spanning multiple industries and asset classes, from technology and real estate to entertainment and commodities that already use Securitize to manage their securities efficiently in native digital format.
Building upon this capital raise, Securitize will add Pedro Teixeira, co-head of Morgan Stanley Tactical Value to its board of directors, where he will join Securitize Spanish co-founder and CEO Carlos Domingo, Securitize co-founder and president Jamie Finn, SPiCE VC co-founder and managing partner Tal Elyashiv, and Blockchain Capital co-founder and managing partner Brad Stephens.
